In the beginning, the department of Statistics was a combined department with Agricultural economics, but from 1977 it was separated and named as Department of Statistics and Mathematics. In the year 2017, it was renamed as the department of Statistics and Computer applications. The department was started with sanctioned strength of four Assistant Professors, one record assistant and one attender. But in the year 2020 it was upgraded to One Associate Professor, 3 Asst. Professors.

The department offers Statistics, Computer Applications and Mathematics courses for all the UG, PG and doctorial programs in Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering Students. In UG programme, the dept. offers three courses namely (1) Elementary Mathematics (2) Statistical Methods (3) Agricultural Informatics.

The department also offers service courses in every year namely (1) Mathematical methods for Applied Sciences, (2) Statistical methods for Applied Sciences, (3) Experimental Designs, (4) Sampling Techniques, (5) Applied Regression Analysis and (6) Data Analysis using Statistical Package for M.Sc. (Ag.), M.Tech (Ag. Engg.) and Ph.D programmes of other discipline.

This department offers M.Sc (Ag.) in Agricultural Statistics Since 2010; and the PhD (Agricultural Statistics) programme from 2020 onwards with a intake of 2 + 1 ICAR seats.

Upto 2020 fourteen number of PG students awarded their degree majoring in Agricultural Statistics.

The department is having perpetual licensed SAS software, Sysstat and Window stat software’s and it is the Nodal center for SAS at ANGRAU (ICAR). The department is having fully equipped Computer Lab with all computer accessories like 50 Desktops, 10 KVA UPS, LCD Projectors, Touch Screen panel Boards, Printers etc.,. The Agricultural College Computer Networking is being maintained by this department since its inception. The ARIS cell is also being maintained by the Department of Statistics & Computer Applications.
