PG PROGRAMMES IN THE COLLEGE

The First Postgraduate (PG) Programme was started in the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding in the year 1968. The PG programmes were subsequently offered by other departments in the later years.  The introduction of PG programmes was commenced to solve the field hurdles faced by the farming community. Students were trained in various scientific processes involved in their respective departments and the usage of equipment in the departments. Research facilities were created based on departmental requirements. The central instrumentation facility was also created with advanced lab equipment like electron microscopes, advanced microscopes, spectrophotometers, etc.  The equipment present in the laboratories was being used by the students in the free environment.

The students were given hands-on training in handling molecular tools, enzymatic analysis, QTL mapping, detection and diagnosis of pests and diseases, usage of SPSS, and R software in the analysis of data. In addition to the academic work, the comprehensive knowledge of research ethics, and intellectual property rights was imparted to the students. In the way of building their capabilities, students were being encouraged to participate in seminars, conferences, workshops, and training programs. Through this continuous effort, students received several recognitions in the conferences and seminars conducted at the national and international levels. Students were also encouraged to publish their research works in the journals at international level.

Practical exposures were being given by taking the students to the research stations, agricultural and horticultural farms, and various government organizations and making them interact with the farmers by conducting surveys. A gym and sports complex with a good indoor stadium was being provided to the students for involving them in various indoor and outdoor games. Every year competitions were being conducted at the college level for sports and cultural events for improving the abilities of the students.

**      The intake for Post Graduate Programmes vary with department, but not exceeding to 15 students / year in M.Sc (Ag.) as per the allotment made by University.
