Horticulture section was started with Mr. K Bhujanga Rao, as Assistant Lecturer in Horticulture in 1945. It was a part of Agronomy Department till 1945. It was a part of Agronomy department till 1959. It started functioning as a separate department with Dr. B Narasimham as Lecturer and Head from 1960 to 1964.
The post-graduate program leading to M.Sc. (Ag) degree in Horticulture was introduced in the year 1986-87 till 2006. Since then 63 students have completed their M.Sc. (Ag).
Under Experiential Learning Programme Vegetable Production Unit was started from the year 2018-19.
